Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory Explains Switch to Republican Party

Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory released a video explaining why he chose to switch to the Republican party. In it, he points out the fact that historically speaking, it has been Republicans that have supported civil rights while it has been the Democrats that have been in opposition. This is actually surprising to many because the left has done such a good job over the years of claiming the movement as their own.

Regardless of their claims, the fact is that it was Republicans, not Democrats, that are responsible for every major advancement in civil rights. The party was founded in the pursuit of the abolition of slavery. In contrast, the Democratic party had pro-slavery/pro-segregation language in their party platform all the way up until the 1950s (which is when they realized that they were on the wrong side of the issue and switched sides in order to survive).

The Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960 and 1964 were predominantly the results of Republican efforts, while the longest filibuster in Senate history was conducted by a Democrat (Strom Thurmond) in direct opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Republicans have Lincoln and Eisenhower. Democrats have Bull Connor, George Wallace and a half dozen Democratic Governors that tried to prevent young black children from going to school.

Do the math. You can listen to tiresome talking points that are regurgitated endlessly in an effort to revise history, or you can do your own homework and think for yourself.

I offer sincere congratulations and respect to Senator Guillory for standing up and telling the truth.
