Where Are All The Protests?

Last night, lawmakers in the Massachusetts House voted overwhelmingly (111-42) for a bill that would eliminate most collective bargaining rights for health care for public employees. We all remember the uproar in Wisconsin, Ohio and every other state that the AFL-CIO and SEIU could organize protests in. Where are the protests in Massachusetts? Are there people camping out in the State House that I’m not aware of? Where are all the people holding up signs saying that the GOP wants to starve children and kill puppies?? Oh, wait. That’s right. The push for this particular legislation was led by Democrats. At least one news organization actually reported it.

Of course, the unions vow to fight it to the bitter end, because let’s be honest, they’re not going to let anyone interfere with their automatic revenue stream. No, it has nothing to do with worker protection, despite what they may say. It’s about money and power. The unions in Wisconsin claimed it was about workers’ rights, but the truth is that what they were really against was the provision in the legislation that no longer required public employees to join the union as a condition of employment. This instantaneously cut off some of the automatic revenue stream to the unions and now will make them actually compete for the hearts and minds of their members. They actually have to provide value if they want to get paid, you know, like the rest of the world. But, I digress…

I find the lack of the mass hysteria interesting. This is the same issue, so why is the left not organizing massive protests all over the country like they did during the Wisconsin debacle? Why are they not shouting from the rooftops about the injustice being levied against the middle class? Why is the mainstream media not reporting this evil blow to struggling working class families? Surely, there’s some evil corporation that can be tarred and feathered in retaliation, er.., I mean, protest.

Isn’t hypocrisy a beautiful thing? You just can’t make this stuff up.
